Safety during a shoot

Safety is my number one priority when it comes to Rock Climbing photoshoots. This includes thorough gear checks, knot inspections, and rope checks (such as flaking the rope), among other precautions. Additionally, I carefully select a location for myself that is appropriately distanced from the climbers while still allowing me to capture dynamic shots. Throughout the entire trip, both on and off the wall, there will be open and clear communication to ensure everyone remains on the same page and stays safe.

How do you work with climbers to capture their best moments while respecting their focus and concentration?

Ensuring climbers can fully concentrate and focus on their climb is paramount to me. That's why, before they begin their ascent, I take the time to ask some preliminary questions, such as their preferred routes, any specific shots they're hoping to capture, and any safety concerns they may have. This helps me understand their goals and ensures we're all on the same page before we start.

Once we've discussed the details, I position myself on the sidelines, carefully choosing vantage points that allow me to capture the action without interfering with the climbers. I strive to blend into the background, remaining unobtrusive while still being ready to capture those incredible moments as they unfold. By staying out of the climbers' way, I can create a safe and supportive environment where they can focus on their climb while I work to document their adventure.
